Birth has the potential to be one of the most wonderful and transformative events of your life! If you are looking for a doula, you are probably already aware of the documented benefits of having a doula present at your birth. The continuous presence and support of a doula has been shown to shorten labor, reduce the need for Pitocin and pain relief medications, reduce the incidence of cesarean sections, decrease postpartum depression, and contribute to an overall positive birth experience.
Elizabeth Brownlee offers a flexible set of services for both birth and postpartum care:
Birth Support
- Two to three prenatal visits
- On-call support from your 38th week until the baby is born
- Continuous support and advocacy for you and your partner during labor and birth
- Ongoing availability by phone and email for questions and resources
- One to two postpartum visits
- Photos of the birth, if desired and if circumstances allow
- Written account of the labor and birth, to supplement your own birth story
- Referrals, information, and access to my extensive lending library (see Resources page, coming soon)
Postpartum Support
Postpartum doula support is available to help ease the transition into parenthood and can take on many forms. Services are quite flexible and depend largely on the needs of the new family. Some examples include:
- assistance with early breastfeeding and help resolving any questions or issues that may arise around feeding the baby
- ensuring that the new parents are comfortable with newborn care
- making sure that the mother is comfortable, well-rested, nourished, and well-hydrated
- helping the new parents be confident in their developing roles
- providing referrals and information

As a fairly new doula, Elizabeth's rates are below the average for the Bay Area. Please contact Elizabeth for more information.
Elizabeth is located in Oakland, California. She offers services in most areas of Alameda County, San Francisco, and some areas of Contra Costa County.
